Cautious
optimism overtakes Mipcom
Variety 09
Oct 09
There were fewer folk pacing the
corridors of the Palais de
Festivals than a year ago, but
all the key players were
present. That was the consensus
at the 25th edition of Mipcom,
which wrapped Oct. 9, as
attendees from more than 103
countries baked in the
unseasonable heat.

Variety 08 Oct 09
Not
even the return of cloudy skies and talk of thunderstorms after days
of sunshine could dampen spirits as the 25th Mipcom sales mart wound
down on a high. Organizers Reed Midem said that with more than
12,000 participants, attendance was up 4% on the spring Mip TV
market and that "a lot of deals" had been done.

Simpsons, Seinfeld and Sun Shine at MIPCOM
2009
StreetInsider.com 08 Oct 09
The mood was upbeat in Cannes this week at the 25th edition of
MIPCOM, as executives from the international television, digital,
advertising and games industries focussed on deals rather than the
global economic crisis. With over 12,000 delegates in Cannes, MIPCOM
registered an increase on the 11,500 delegates who attended MIPTV in
April. Buyers were also out in force, with over 4,000 in town
compared to 3,500 at MIPTV. |

popularity of the Internet as a source of news, along with cuts in
advertising, threaten Europe's burgeoning TV news channels, industry

the digitisation of cable and satellite networks, the number of TV

MIPCOM
winds down on up note
The Hollywood
Reporter 07
Oct
09 Creative financing and feel-good shows were all the rage as the
MIPCOM TV market began winding down Wednesday, with buyers and
sellers alike hopeful that the worst of the economic nightmare was
past. Despite numbers down about 8% year-on-year, overall attendance
of 12,000 participants was well up on numbers MipTV managed six
months ago -- the two markets are usually on par.

Sunny Mipcom mood
Variety 04 Oct 09
Distributors at the 25th Mipcom sales market seem buoyed by a mood
of optimism -- and it's not just due to the sunny skies and balmy
temperatures here in Cannes. "There's a real sense that things are
starting to get better," said Chris Grant, topper at L.A.-based
Shine Intl., prepping for today's opening. He said his slate was
four or even fives times bigger than the last time he made the trek
to the south of France. Some 12,000 participants, including 4,000
buyers from 100 countries, have registered, slightly down on last
fall's Mipcom, when 12,500 delegates attended, but up on April's Mip
TV mart with 11,500 participants.

MIPCOM: Glitz amid a still-tricky market
Hollywood
Reporter 04 Oct 09
Weak local currencies and the slow road to recovery were on the
minds of buyers and sellers heading to the Riviera-side market
MIPCOM. Despite the tough economic realities, the mood is tipped
towards optimism as the TV industry is looking to sell audiences on
what it knows best: entertainment. With a raft of exclusive
performances, cocktails and parties, there is a sense that glitz and
glamour is back on the Croisette, albeit as part of a pretty
tough-sell as distributors go all-out to woo buyers to new shows.
