Monaco sink to foot of second tier, crisis deepens  AFP 17 Oct 11 The troubles of former French champions Monaco continued on Monday night as the principality club sank to the bottom of the second division in the wake of a 4-0 hammering at Guingamp. A former Monaco striker, Italian Simone has overseen just one win in five games at the helm, and the seven-times title winners have just nine points after 11 matches.

Leading the (imaginary) high life in Monaco  telegraph.co.uk 17 Oct 11 In a futile attempt to keep up with the lifestyle of the Grimaldis, I allowed myself an imaginary €15,167,241 for my recent visit to Monaco. After all, there is no point in doing things by halves when in the principality. Of course, I could have avoided the squash on the train on the short journey from Nice if I had taken the helicopter at €125 for the seven-minute flight so I thought it better to invest in one of my own since I hoped to be using it regularly. Then I found just what I wanted advertised in a shop window; a 2003 €3,145,000 Eurocopter with enhanced sound-proofing, as they can be quite noisy. Robert Hopkins.

Police believe the gang of three Italians was helped by an insider at the casino – a Frenchman who surreptitiously marked cards with the invisible ink. Nick Squires.

The gap is explained by the very different profile of these two departments, one rural and one highly urbanized.  AFP.

Prostitution along N7 ‘more discreet’  nouvelobs.com 01 Oct 11 Prostitution along the N7 between Frejus, Vidauban, Brignoles and Aix-en-Provence has become more discreet according to a survey carried out over nearly two months. It is likely that the actions of law enforcement and municipalities have helped to reduce the presence of prostitutes on the N7. There remain little more than four places of prostitution, however, it should be noted that in some places: entrance to Vidauban, near Roquebrune and Aix-en-Provence, the presence of prostitutes still exists but is much more rare. Prostitution in the Var, Bouches du Rhone and Alpes Maritimes, is always present.
