The 21st
Monaco Yacht Show, 21-24 Sep 11, was a tale of two recessions.
The super rich continue to commission superyachts of 50
metres and more, whilst there are fire sales for second
hand smaller yachts that have flooded the market.
Meanwhile, the regulators are catching up with this
offshore business, with new laws regulating crew and
safety conditions.

King Juan Carlos of Spain and Prince
Albert of Monaco visit Monaco Yacht Show
informa.com 28 Sep 11
This year King Juan Carlos of Spain and HSH Prince Albert II of
Monaco visited the Monaco Yacht Show which is part of Informa Plc. It is sales that drive the industry and, although official
announcements are yet to filter out of the brokerage houses, the
frequent blaring of horns across the marina suggested that sales
have been made. There were rumours of several big purchases
among these deals with the introduction of several first-time
buyers to the market. Nomade was sold in advance of the show,
whilst yachts such as Shooting Star and Quinta Essentia were a
hive of activity across the four days.

Attendance up at Monaco Yacht Show
thetriton.com 05 Oct 11
Attendance was up slightly at last month’s Monaco Yacht Show,
making it what organizers cautiously called “perhaps the most
successful show in the event’s 21-year history.” About 28,200
visitors attended. Half of the admission fees collected
(€52,700) were donated to a Monaco charity to fight muscular
dystrophy and the show donated €40,000 to Prince Albert II’s
Wood Forever program that fights deforestation. A 42m
Turkish-built vessel sailed into the show as Nomade and departed
as Bar Tender, having sold during the show. The Dutch builder
Jongert used the show to conclude the signing of a contract that
will see it build a 46m motor yacht designed by Dubois. |
