Billionaires sail luxury icebreakers
through post-Lehman waters
financialpost.com 15 Oct 11
It has been three years since the collapse of Lehman Brothers
triggered the worst fiscal crisis following the Great Depression
and a gust of fear among the armada of giga-yachtsmen who each
September sail into the Monaco Yacht Show to preen and prance
their monstrous vessels for sale. Time and Europe’s
multibillion-dollar credit calamity have not been kind to them.
Everything anchored in Monaco was on fire sale. There are 450
private vessels that bow-to-stern stretch beyond 200 feet,
according to the Camper & Nicholsons 2011 Superyachting Index.

Jongert signs two new superyacht contracts
superyachttimes.com 07 Oct 11
At the Monaco Yacht Show, Jongert Shipyard signed two orders for
new superyachts: a 44m motoryacht and a 43m motoryacht. The 44m
yacht has been designed by Dubois Naval Architecture, and is a
project of broker Alex Krykanyuk. Information about the 43m
yacht will not be released by the yard for now, but we can
reveal that both yachts will be delivered in 2013. While Jongert
was still looking for a clear direction at last year’s show, the
two new orders ensured that the yard was well on course this
time round. Jongert Shipyard recently presented two new designs:
the Jongert 500 LE, a 50m motoryacht, and the 3000 M, a 30m
sailingyacht. Maarten Janssen. |

Attendance up at Monaco Yacht Show
thetriton.com 05 Oct 11
Attendance was up slightly at last month’s Monaco Yacht Show,
making it what organizers cautiously called “perhaps the most
successful show in the event’s 21-year history.” About 28,200
visitors attended. Half of the admission fees collected
(€52,700) were donated to a Monaco charity to fight muscular
dystrophy and the show donated €40,000 to Prince Albert II’s
Wood Forever program that fights deforestation. A 42m
Turkish-built vessel sailed into the show as Nomade and departed
as Bar Tender, having sold during the show. The Dutch builder
Jongert used the show to conclude the signing of a contract that
will see it build a 46m motor yacht designed by Dubois. |

King Juan Carlos of Spain and Prince
Albert of Monaco visit Monaco Yacht Show
informa.com 28 Sep 11
This year King Juan Carlos of Spain and HSH Prince Albert II of
Monaco visited the Monaco Yacht Show which is part of Informa Plc. It is sales that drive the industry and, although official
announcements are yet to filter out of the brokerage houses, the
frequent blaring of horns across the marina suggested that sales
have been made. There were rumours of several big purchases
among these deals with the introduction of several first-time
buyers to the market. Nomade was sold in advance of the show,
whilst yachts such as Shooting Star and Quinta Essentia were a
hive of activity across the four days.

the Spire Boat. After years of creating several competition
boats, the Spire Boat’s designers wanted to work on an outboard
pleasure boat combining competitiveness, safety, and aesthetics.
They turned to the Mugler Studio to design a rare, fantasy
version of their new speedboat. The Mugler Studio focused on
recreating interior and exterior, resulting in a retro
futuristic Spire Boat, inspired by the muscle cars of the 1950s.
