Local resident
Tom
Anderson
was on board one of the original Radio Caroline ships from the
60s, the Mi Amigo, when it sank on March 20th 1980, broadcasting
until the last minute. In this video Tom, a former programme
director at Riviera Radio, recounts the dramatic events of that
fateful day and the difficult rescue by the Sheerness lifeboat in
a force 9 gale in the North Sea. Just over three years later, Tom
was the first voice on the air when
Radio
Caroline
returned from a bigger ship, the former record breaking trawler
Ross
Revenge.
In 1986 Tom joined Sunshine Radio in Antibes and later Riviera
Radio in Monaco. The new Richard Curtis movie 'The Boat That
Rocked' has rekindled interest in the offshore radio stations.

In this tough market, yacht chartering
has become even more competitive. With many charter clients looking for value for
money this year and considering down-sizing, YPI Charter organised a day out from Port Canto
in Cannes to the popular lunchtime anchorage between the Iles
des Lerins for yacht brokers to sample the luxuries offered by
three yachts on their books, all of them around 30m. Take a virtual
trip with us! |

MY Pari Runs Aground
Off Cap
Ferrat
The 39m Motor Yacht Pari
ran aground on the 'Rompa Talon' rocks off of Cap Ferrat in the early
hours of Saturday 30 May 09 in strong winds and rough seas. A dramatic
helicopter rescue took 5 crew and two guests off of the boat whilst the
captain remained on board. Pari was eventually refloated in a delicate
operation 27 Jun 09 and towed around Cap Ferrat to Villefranche pending
further inspection and repairs. We have all the news and a video clip.
