Monaco artist Blake
supports Middle East protestors with art
RLTV 01 Mar 11
Last October in Toronto, Monaco based
sculptor Blake staged an art happening to demonstrate the power
of performance art to bring oppression closer to public
consciousness. A Buddha sculpture by Blake was set on fire and
filmed. The event was inspired by the self-immolation of a
Buddhist monk in South Vietnam in 1963 to protest the
persecution of Buddhists by the government. Blake has now
dedicated the film to the protestors struggling for freedom in
North Africa and the Middle East. These revolutions were sparked
off in Tunisia following the self-immolation by fire of street
vendor Mohamed Bouazizi to whom this moving film has been
dedicated. Mark Dezzani. |
